Northport Plein Air Painting Event

 June 15th – 17th

The Event:  Select artists will be invited to paint within the Village of Northport at designated locations on June 15th and 16th.  At the end of the second day they will submit one painting for a silent auction/exhibition to be held June 17th, 11am-4pm, at LaMantia Gallery.  “Best in Show” will be selected by the gallery during the reception/exhibition.  An information tent for observers will be set up during the event where observers will can access event information.  Event will be held rain or shine. 

 

Sales:  All sales made during the 3 day event will be subject to a 70/30 split, 70% to the artist and 30% to benefit the Northport Arts Coalition.  All sales will be collected by the Arts Coalition and checks will be mailed to the individual artists within 30 days of the event.       

 

Eligibility:  Open to all plein air artists of the region working in two dimensional painting and drawing media.

 

Entry Fee:   $30 per artist, $25 for Northport Arts Coalition members.  Entry fee is nonrefundable.

 

Submissions:  To be considered for participation please submit 3 examples of plein air work for review.  Submissions should be in jpeg format on disc (no smaller than 1024 x 768) or high quality photo’s, and mailed to The Northport Arts Coalition with a SASE and sufficient postage for return, if return of materials is desired (ability will be judged by submitted examples so quality of submissions is crucial).  If the quality/style, represented in the examples submitted for inclusion, differs greatly from the painting produced during the 2 day painting event, participation in the silent auction/exhibition may be withheld. Include the appropriate fee, completed and signed entrance application, as well as a photo of yourself and brief (paragraph) bio in typed form (can be included on CD with examples if so desired). Submissions must be received by May 24 to be considered for jurying.  All artists selected for the painting event will be notified by May 31.  

Details: This event will be held rain or shine and entrance fee is nonrefundable.  Locations for painting will be chosen by the artist based on designated painting locations (some flexibility will be allowed and creative locations will be considered), which will be given out on a first come basis on the first day of painting.  Artwork submitted for the silent auction must be completed on site during the two days of painting.  Painting must be submitted framed or painted on Gallery wrap canvas.  Work done on paper must be matted with a professional presentation (white or off white matt and behind glass). All work ready to hang. Submissions are not to exceed the dimensions of 16” x 20," including dimensions of frame. 

 

All work eligible for the auction must be finished and framed and handed in to LaMantia Gallery prior to 4:30pm on Saturday.  Exhibition and auction hours on Sunday will be 11am-4pm.  Unsold paintings are to be picked up by the end of gallery hours on the day of the auction.
