NAC NEWSLETTER now reaches 1041.  We started with 10.

And now a word from our traveling Board Member Tara Kavanaugh:

This is  letter from our intrepid Board Member and director of  the Northport Opera Company Tara Kavanagh,   who has received a grant to complete a one month  grand tour of Italy and Germany to  improve her opera skills (on a very limited budget)….  Truly a brave and talented addition to the Northport Arts Coalition, she has been sharing her adventures with us, and here is an excerpt from one of her spontaneous

  e-mail  letters.  (with permission)

“OK, I jumped the border and here I am in Germany for the first time.  …I miss Italy…  From the air, the ground was so lush and green and water everywhere. There are a lot of little parks and rivers that are very nice. However, no one wears anything colorful, people are in a rush and the buildings are not very pretty.  The people for the most part are nice when I asked for directions. I could imagine it a very cold place in the winter.

I went to the international college of music and missed the vocal professor by 2 hrs urghhh. She won´t be back for another 2 weeks. urgh. but I did run into the lawyer for the state opera and she told me of a program the opera house has.   I got information inside and made a contact. I called but no answer. We will see if it leads anywhere.

Tomorrow, Berlin. I am looking forward to singing and learning for 3 days.

Before I forget...while in Milan I had a fun experience. I wanted to see La Scala and so I went to the main mall area and sang to raise money for the entrance fee .   I exceeded the amount!  22 euro in 20 minutes. I thought that was pretty good.  The people really appreciated it.   One never knows… people were video taping me and thought I was from the Scala. Ha. maybe one day.

I´m thinking of taking an Italian course in Florence for a week.  I think I would get a lot out of that. I also want to see the south-- Naples perhaps. we´ll see.”

( I just had to share this with our members – they appreciate artists and are our supporters, especially  supporters who  have become  NACmembers.    Pat)
