CALLING ALL NAC MEMBERS….
We're planning the new
season of NAC 2nd Wednesdays from September 07 to June "08, and
we'd like to try something new! Four or five NAC Wednesdays during the
season will host presentations by 2 different NAC members; we’re calling it "TWO-FORS".
(October (?), January (?), March (?), May (?) These
presentations/ programs would each be 40-45 minutes in length and
there would be two of them during a NAC Wednesday:
The possibilities and combinations are endless, limited only
by the imagination of our members:
a writer's workshop/ a dance solo / a sculptor at work/ a singer-songwriter / a choral work/ an artist's process / an origami demonstration/ a soprano / haiku / tap dancers / travel slides and guide/ magician
You get the idea! Please submit your idea for a 40 minute program to NACNEWSLETTER@GMAIL.COM

emotional, filled with color, energy, and movement. It sometimes transforms
from its original intent during the creative process. The work often includes
various media and styles.

EXTRA! EXTRA!
A CO-OP proposal from photographer, John Ellsworth johnells@optonline.net
To the NAC membership: I have discovered that a storefront on Northport's Main Street is likely to become available early this summer. The rent is reasonable.
I am proposing that the membership of NAC consider forming an artists' cooperative gallery.
As many of you know, a co-op is an organization where dues paying members exhibit their art on a continuing basis. Membership would be open to part- and fulltime local artists that produce high quality, professional work. A coop committee would screen (or juror) potential artists. Depending on the membership level, members would be entitled to a yearly show.
The mission of the co-op would be to promote the work of local artists and challenge them to be at their most creative. Artists could produce work that may reflect periodic themes generated by the membership. The gallery could also present competitions for non-members as well. In this case, there would be a call for artists to submit examples of work that represents a theme. A jerrying fee and a gallery sales commission would be applied.
What would this entail? We couldn't run a co-op without volunteers and dues paying membership. Meetings would be conducted each month, perhaps in the gallery space. Shows would have to be arranged and curated. Receptions would have to be arranged. The space has to be manned and maintained. Moneys have to be collected and accounted for. Shows have to be promoted. Rent has to be paid. The interior space would have to be redesigned and constructed to reflect a gallery environment, and so forth.
At this point, I am asking those of you who are interested in at least discussing this possibility, email me at johnells@optonline.net . (Put "Co-op" in the subject line.) If there is sufficient interest, we can meet and address the practicality, plausibility, and logistics of this idea.
Thanks,
John Ellsworth
