POETS IN PORT – Saturday, October 14th at 7:30 there will be a "one time only" Poets in Port (on a different day). It will be a brief one-woman show of poetry and song performed by Kate Dellis Stover who will have just returned from presenting her program at a national conference in upstate New York. Kate Dellis Stover is a Columbia Graduate in Literature/Writing and has performed an original poem on Channel Thirteen as part of the Bill Moyers Special "The Language of Life." She is a published writer and enjoys losing herself in the creative process whether she is cooking, making a collage, or listening to that "still, small voice within."

"Northport Opera Company" (under the Northport Arts Coalition) was awarded $1,000 by the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Grant. In Suffolk County the Decentralization Program is administered by the Huntington Arts Council, Inc. This money has been earmarked for our October performance at the VA Medical Center.

James Twomey III (fine-art photography) and Victoria Twomey (alternative imaging) recently received awards at Gallery North's 41st Annual Outdoor Art Show in Setauket. James was awarded "Best Display" while Victoria received "Best New Entry" and "Second Place - Graphic Design." The couple will open the Twomey Gallery to the Hecksher Museum's Artist Driving Tour on October 15th (call museum for tickets). NAC member Mike Killelea, has won the annual Greenport poster contest for the second time. The award for Killelea's watercolor painting "Greenport Carousel" was presented during the Greenport Maritime Festival Sept. 22-23. The artist previously won the competition in 2004 with a painting of a vessel in Greenport's Clark's Shipyard. The posters are collected worldwide. Killelea is also the artist and author of two books of paintings celebrating the North Fork, and this August and September, drove cross country to California, as well as through Belgium, Holland, Germany and Denmark recording more than 30 watercolor impressions of scenes during his travels.

DANCE
Elsa Posey, R.D.E., Director of Posey School has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Dance Education Organization. This is the highest award, nationwide, for leaders in dance education. The award cited Ms. Posey’s work nationally with such organizations as the American Dance Guild, Congress on Research in Dance, Society of Dance History Scholars, International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, and the Dance Notation Bureau. Ms. Posey has directed Posey School in Northport Village for the past 53 years.
Posey School will be closed Monday, October 16 and reopens Monday, October 23 as the faculty will attend meetings in Long Beach, California where the Award will be presented. For information about classes that are open at Posey School call 757-2700. New classes include an adult modern dance class on Thursday evening at 6:15 to 7:15.
