NORTHPORT THEATER
Just about a year ago I purchased the Northport Theater with the goal of creating a center for the performing arts in Northport; a place that would bring new life and vitality to the village by attracting a broad audience of visitors from around the island, while serving as a focal point for arts activities in Northport.
Now, over a year later, I believe that I have realized the first part of my vision: the Theater has been converted from a defunct movie house into an active live performance space. Over the past several months, we have seen sold out performances for the Bare Bones’ production of Brooklyn Boy, performances by our local Northport Opera Company, Canta Libre, Lion In Winter and a presentation by Constant Wonder to support the Make A Wish Foundation, inspired by a courageous young girl named, Maya. The Northport Arts Coalition showcased local talent and raised awareness for the Theater. More than 4,000 visitors came to the village and filled this house with laughter and applause for the creative talents of our local presenters.
It has been most rewarding for me to see so many people – eager theatergoers and families with children – working their way up Main Street to the Theater. I felt truly gratified to see this energy coming into the village.
Early on in the development of the Theater, one patron in particular, Kevin O’Neill, came forward and supported the vision of a live performance space in Northport. I have sold the Theater to Kevin, who has begun the next phase of preserving the Theater by backing it with the resources and renovations necessary to sustain our theater for generations to come. I feel that with Kevin’s leadership, the successful operation of our Theater will revitalize our Village Main Street and provide a benefit for all in our community.
I wish to thank all of the supporters and patrons of the Northport Theater who have helped to preserve our historic landmark. This community’s continued support and patronage is vital to the future that this Theater holds.
Dennis Tannenbaum
And a big thank you from the Northport Arts Coaltion for all your efforts!

A note
from Christina Rau:
"In the next few
months, my schedule is filling up, as I'm sure yours is, too. I'm
currently looking for someone to host some readings. As
host, you read a poem at the beginning by a poet you like, then you introduce
the features, keep time if necessary, and then run the open mic.
Please let me know if you're interested in any certain readings.
Preferably, I'd like the host to host readings in the same venue for a reading
cycle (three in a row). "
