Northport Arts Coalition presents Poet George Wallace on January 11th at 7:30 pm. He returns to the Northport Library
with his latest collection of poetry, published recently in the US and UK. According to poet Camilo DiMaria, Wallace's latest poetry demonstrates his ability to combine rapid-fire narrative with sizzling surrealistic imagery to produce poems that seem to "leap from an abyss." All are welcome.
NORTHPORT OPERA COMPANY was featured on WUSB, 90.1 fm on Tuesday, December 27th at 11am. Tara Kavanagh (Co-Founder, Soprano and Musical Director) interviewed with Chris Garvey for a full hour! Clips from their latest "live" recording from "Opera in Autumn" were played.
Congratulations to the Northport Opera Company on a successful first year! Kudos to NAC members Tara Kavanagh & Michelle Whittaker for their vision!
The opera company would like to thank mezzo Celeste Mann for participating in their first year and bid her farewell and good luck on the production of "Margaret Garner", music by Richard Danielpour and libretto by Toni Morrison. They also wish tenor, Young-Ha Kim good luck in the toughest part of his doctoral program and anticipate his return in the Spring!
Auditions are still going on until the end of January. Men and mezzos are encouraged to send an audition request to northportopera@yahoo.com. Volunteers will be actively sought during their transition into the new year.

Thank you Barbara for helping us with the beginning stages & logistics of the decorations for the theater window.. I hope you are feeling much better today and sorry you were not able to attend the open house.
Thank you Elaine for your support, for invitations & giving them to our village hall people.. Thank you Elaine for all your support with this wonderful open house! I met you when you were in charge of the art show at village hall, when I was first bitten by artist fever and now I'm hooked!
Thank you Terry with the publicity...faxing letters and calling news centers numerous times to make sure our press release got out there. And giving out our posters in Huntington Village and around town. You really helped us get the word out. I’m sorry you couldn’t make it for the open house. You did a great job with the publicity!. I think over 300 people attended. It was a success.
Thank you Ross for your generous support with publicity too. For giving out posters in Huntington Village and around town. I didn’t get a chance to meet you. and hope to do so in the near future. You and Terry helped in a tremendous way getting the word out there.
Thank you Valerie for all your hard work with the window decorations, for running around getting last minute details done and for your great ideas. And thank you for being our cute French maid who served refreshments and helped with clean up during our open house. Im glad you liked it!
Thank you to Ruthanne for helping with the decoration of the window "The Balls" (ha, ha) and for writing up the poster in calligraphy of the list of people who donated $ to NAC. And for her pastry deserts.

With sorrow and regret we report that Jay Johnson a very generous NAC member died a tragic death in a fatal fall from a 100 foot tree in the course of his work as a tree surgeon. Two weeks prior to his death he had published his first book of poetry, Break Time: The Essential Kicker Poetry and Dialogue. His book can be purchased at his website www.breaktimebook.com Jay participated in our "Art, Music and Poetry in the Park" event in 2004 (all three events!), and in August of 2005. Some of you may remember his August 2004 performance featuring a Chainsaw Overture by the "Three Amigos." Jay, a very generous NAC member, was extremely creative in his performances.
In lieu of flowers, donations were made to NAC and the Long Island Arborcultural Association.
NAC plans on having a special tribute for him this summer, 2006 in the Northport Village Park.
The following people generously made donations to NAC in his memory:
In Memory of John H. "Jay" Johnson
The Meyer Family (Susan, Arthur); LaMay's Tree Service; Robert Olenuk; Nancy Anderson; Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Cantoni;

In addition, the following people asked that their donations at the Open House Theater Party be
