The Northport Arts Coalition presents SUNDAY IN THE PARK: An Afternoon of Art, Poetry, Music and Dance.  Artists, poets, crafters, musicians, dance ensembles, singers and songwriters will gather at the water’s edge, in the historic village of Northport, for an outdoor festival.  Visual artists, photographers, sculptors, folk singers, belly dancers, and poets are just a sampling of the many talented artists who will participate in this annual event.  August 20 – Northport Village Park (Main St. & Woodbine Ave) – Noon to 5:00 PM.   For more details go to: www.northportarts

 

Posey in the Park - Be sure to catch the Posey Dance Performance on Sunday, August 20th, Northport Village Park between 2:00 and 3:00. The hour will feature dance students from the Posey School's Jazz, Modern, Ballet and Belly Dance Classes. Musical performances include Folk Singer/Guitarist Mike Soloway

NAC 2nd Wednesdays is a collaborative series between the Northport Arts Coalition and the Northport Library  is coordinated by Charlotte Koons.   We meet every second Wednesday of the Month at 7 p.m.  NAC, in partnership with the Northport Public Library, presents Jazz Pianist Ranny Reeves on Wednesday, August 9 at 7:00 PMEnjoy an evening of jazz improvisation, standards, and original pieces performed by jazz pianist Randy Reeve with Paul Mitchell on bass and other guests.  Free admission.  Northport Public Library, 151 Laurel Ave., Northport, NY.

The Smithtown Township Arts Council presents Come Dance With Me Round the Mill Pond Trees:  Learning to Sing and Dance with Hansel and Gretel.  Join the Northport Opera Company for an afternoon of song and dance.  Children of all ages view the dance scene from Hansel and Gretel, then participate by learning the movement and words.  Exposure to both German and English.  The evening culminates with magical scenes and arias, including Puccini, Verdi, Massenet, Gluck and more!  Saturday, August 5 at 4:00 PM a Workshop for children and adults.   Adult Performance at 7:30 PM.  Mills Pond House, 660 Rt. 25A, St. James, NY.   (631) 862-6575.  The Northport Opera Company is sponsored by the Northport Arts Coalition

NORTHPORT COMMUNITY BAND TO PLAY FINAL CONCERT OF 2006 SEASON

5th Concert – “Stars Of Tomorrow

 

The Northport Community Band, under the direction of Founder & Musical Director Robert W. Krueger and Associate Director Donald M. Sherman, will wrap up its 48th season on August 3rdThe Ron Aprea 17 Piece Big Band  will be appearing for one night only! Elizabeth was commissioned to paint a 17 foot silk painting which was photographed, enlarged and laminated to a 100 foot corridor wall as a mural. Jo-Ann Corretti will be displaying her latest Northport Village Dock print (see below) at the Art-Music-and Poetry-In-The-Park, in  Northport Village Park, on Aug. 20 11am-5pm.  A portion of the sales will be donated to Hospice House in East Northport...She will also have for sale, her latest Northport Christmas Cards...Jo-Ann painted a new Christmas image this  year, along with other favorites.

August 19 and 20: Photographer John Ellsworth will be exhibiting at the Montauk Fine Art show on the green. There will be about 60 exhibitors. Check http://johnellsworth.com to see John's work old and new.   John has been expanding his portfolio by photographing the sailing races conducted on Huntington Bay on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Sundays. James Twomey III (fine art photography) & Victoria Twomey (alternative imaging) will exhibit their work at the Twomey Gallery in Huntington. For more information go to www.twomeygallery.com.  Examples of their recent work include "Lemons and Three Seeds in Bowl" by Victoria and an untitled work by James depicting colorful Adirondacks chairs on a porch in Vermont

 

Yvonne Suzuki  has  a painting in the Huntington Arts Council Members Exhibition, if that's worth mentioning.  It's at the Art-trium in Melville through August 26th    It's an oil painting: "Portrait of Phoebe Suzuki".

PERFORMING ARTS

Auditions – The Minstrel Players are holding open auditions on Mon 8/7 at 8 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 130 Main Street in Northport Village. Parts available: All roles require a British accent.

 CATCH THE WONDER! (Constant Wonder, that is...) We are performing an "All About Broadway" show at Children's Museum of Manhattan on August 13th at 1:30pm and 2:30pm. We will be at Long Island Children's Museum on August 17th and 18th at 1pm and 3pm each day. And on September 10th, we will be at Old Westbury Gardens performing our "We Love Long Island" show.  We loved performing at Happenings on Main Street earlier this summer and hearing others perform each Friday evening. EARTH HARMONY - is an intergenerational dance movement choir which takes place out of doors in the fresh  air to the music of live drums. It is funded by a JPMorganChase and Huntington Arts Council grant. NAC member, choreographer Dafna Soltes Stein teachs participants fun to do, folksy dance sequences that celebrate the earth. Come to Heckscher Park in Huntington village and join in the fun. No dance experience required.  5 workshops from 4:00-5:30pm   Sunday August 27, Wednesday August 30, Sunday September 3 Wednesday September 6 and Sunday September 10
