NAC at East Northport Library

The first meeting of the Northport Reader's Theater will be held at the East Northport Library on Wednesday, April 26th at 7:00 PM.  They will be reading Terrence McNally's "Lips Together, Teeth Apart," a riveting comedy about a brother and sister and their spouses, attempting to celebrate a 4th of July weekend on Fire Island, while examining the uncertainty of their affluent habits and petty prejudices.   The cast will rotate between readers, in order to accommodate the maximum number of actors. On Wednesday, March 5, 2006, NAC hosted A Poet in the Heart, - A Tribute to Jay Johnson – It was a delightful memorial, well attended by Jay’s many friends and admirers, Jay would have enjoyed it.  NAC was pleased to have such an event.  And a thank you goes to the Library for their generous hospitality.     Among the attending poets were: Bruce Johnson, Gloria Murray, Barbara Reiher Meyers, Alan Semerdjian, Shannah Levi, Kate Kelly, and Binnie Pasquier.

Constant Wonder, the children's performing duo, is performing a benefit concert for the Make-A-Wish Foundation on Friday April 7th at 7pm at the newly reopened Northport Theater. And then they're heading to the BIG CITY for an Earth Day Celebration at Grand Central Station! On April 14th and 15th, Constant Wonder will perform shows inside Grand Central Station. On April 22nd, they will join a line-up of great musicians on stage outside Grand Central! Come join in the fun and let your children learn how they can help to save the Earth! The Northport Community Band has a new website (www.ncb.homestead.com) that offers a wealth of information, including the newly published 2006 concert schedule (July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3). This season’s theme – “Great Band Music Under the Stars” – promises to be the group’s best yet, so mark your calendars! As summer approaches, the Concert Schedule page of the site will provide overviews of each concert, as well as downloadable programs (posted a day or two before each concert) that users can print in advance and bring with them on Thursday nights. Bob, Don and the members of the band look forward to seeing area music lovers during the group’s 2006 summer season and hope the new website will become a valuable community resource.

James Twomey III & Victoria Twomey, recently featured in the "Movers and Shakers" column in the Times of Northport newspaper, will celebrate the grand opening of the Twomey Gallery on Saturday, April 29th & Sunday, April 30th, from 1-5 pm. MUSIC FOR MAYA is an interactive children's concert which will be performed by Constant Wonder on Friday, April 7th at 7 p.m. at the newly opened Northport Theater for Performing Arts Center (once the old movie theater...right in downtown Northport!) MUSIC FOR MAYA came to be when Taylor Cocciolone of the National Junior Honor Society of Northport High School suggested raising funds for a girl named Maya Murray in his brother's first grade class at Norwood Avenue School.  Maya, a bright-eyed, enthusiastic and joyful little girl is undergoing weekly chemotherapy treatments. When Taylor asked Maya’s mom, Liz Lister if she thought a Constant Wonder fundraising concert was a good idea, she enthusiastically said, "YES!" and suggested all the proceeds be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation of Suffolk County.
