Dear NAC Community:
Pat Bond is away this week so I am presenting the NAC News. There are lots of changes in store so please take note.
Our Board member, Joan Hauser will be leaving the Board. We will miss her a great deal. Joan joined the Board over two years ago, and has worked actively. She edited our "Journal for the Arts", and prepared forms and programs for us. Joan has always been available to help, and she has been a treasure to the organization. The NAC Board would like to express great appreciation for her service. Fortunately, she will still be around to assist us!  At the present time, we have not chosen a replacement for her position. A board member is encouraged to attend board meetings (approx 6 a year), and attend events. For those of you who feel that they can successfully serve on the board, please contact Pat Bond
secretary@northportarts.org
I expect that all of you are racing to get copies of the Northport Observer (and hopefully getting subscriptions!) just so that you can keep track of our weekly activities. Our precious, wonderfully creative Doris Rowe, has been laboring for months and months as editor of these newsletters. She has been doing  fabulous work since Jan. 1st, and will take a well-earned long break starting June 16th. If any of you are anxious to become editor (layout, edit, design, etc....) or at least would like to try to be the editor or work with others on this,  please contact me ASAP at
vivaldi222@aol.com The publication has enhanced NAC's position within the community and spread the word about our events in an unprecedented way.
As far as our pitch to raise money for the Tsunami effort,  NAC did send $100 to the Unicef Tsunami Relief effort. I was somewhat disappointed with the turn-out of new memberships during this time. Despite the fact that a percentage of the fee was to be to the relief efforts, we only took in 4 membership/renewals.  Please renew for 2005, if you haven't already. If you would like to know when you last paid your dues, please contact me at
vivaldi222@aol.com
With regards to our Fund Raiser concert, we have decided to table the matter until the Northport Theater is open and has a functioning stage for live performances! Our "committee" includes Amy Tuttle, Steve Bennett, Soshana Rahmani and Steve Archdeacon. We will start planning once we have a date scheduled in the Theater.
There are programs galore happening in Northport! Opera Night at the Cafe Portofino(249 Main Street) continues every first Friday of the Month, and our very own Kate Kelly has been running the "Poets-in-Port" since the start of 2005. Tonight's (April, 29th) event will feature Poetreeman (aka John Kicker) and music by Sun, Moon and Stars. Today is also our seventh year anniversary. It's amazing that so much has been accomplished in such a relatively short time. Kudos to all those involved.
Congratulations, Board Member Tara Kavanagh and NAC member Michelle Whitaker, who have founded and debuted the "Northport Opera Company." Our April 23rd event was a huge success. For all you budding divas and Luciano Pavarotti's who are interested in auditioning for the company---I encourage you to contact Tara at:
northportopera@yahoo.com
Our DO-ing music, headed by Sally Shorrock was also  a smashing success. The library was filled to capacity (200!), the pianist was extraordinary, and 10 generous artists displayed their art work.
Artists are reminded to turn in your applications for the "Art, Music and Poetry in the Park" festival on June 19th, July 17th and August 21st.
application  After May 15th, a $10 application deadline fee will be implemented.

Our Spring Concert - "An International Festival of Folk" is scheduled at Northport High School, Laurel Hill Road, E. Northport, for the evening of Friday, May 6th at 8:30 PM. General Admission $10, Seniors $8, Students $5. This concert will be a very exciting and unique event, as folk dancers from all over Long Island will be appearing on stage with the Chorale, representing five cultures! And, as if that weren't enough, our small lobby will be home to an interesting display of local "folk" art, including the work of popular artist Elizabeth Yarii.

We will also be performing for the residents at the Northport Veteran's Hospital May 1st at 2:30 PM, and at 8:30 PM on Friday, June 17th at Northport Park to kick off Northport's "Summer Concert-in-the-Park" series.  Of particular note; we will once again be holding our enormously popular "Northport Chorale Flea Market & Craft Fair" in Northport Park on Saturday, May 14th from 10AM - 4PM.

Ranny Reeve will be celebrating his 80th birthday on May 20th. Many of us in Northport have known Ranny for decades as a friend, teacher, performer and  composer of jazz. Dear Friends,
Just letting you know there will be a fine arts and crafts show this coming weekend in Lloyd Harbor, NY, at Caumsett State Historical Park. The show is sponsored by the Lloyd Harbor Historical Society. There will be about 60 artisans, including myself, gathered at the Marshall Field Farm Complex.
During the winter, I photographed during and after several snow falls and started writing a column--Vantage Points--for the Northport Observer (Northport Arts Coalition).
