NAC SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES ITS GOAL OF SUPPORTING THE ARTS IN THE NORTHPORT COMMUNITY THIS SUMMER!  A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE GENEROUS ARTISTS WHO SHARED THEIR TALENTS AND THANKS TO OUR GENEROUS MEMBERS WHO SUPPORTED THEM.

 Among the many programs we brought you were the: Do-ing Music Series; Art, Music, and Poetry in the Park; NAC at the Café; Happenings on Main Street; Northport Village Hall Art Show; Jazz for a Summer Night; and the Poetry of Neruda .

 

 

NAC WEDNESDAYs

Art Opportunity: Northport Village Art Show, September 2004

“Rebuilding our Future: Life after Nine Eleven.”  Exhibition open to all artists exploring how America, Northport, and/or the individual has moved on since nine/eleven.  Looking for work that reflects how life, freedom, trust and security have changed since nine/eleven.

Work must be at least 16” x 20” and no larger than 36” x 36”.  $10.00 for NAC members, $15 for non-members.  Artists will be responsible for transporting their work to the Village Hall.  For more information, contact: estein9560@aol.com or call (631) 261-0303

    THEATER

    October 21-Charlotte Koons and Ghislaine Grillo are co-facilitating “Roots and Wings”:A Dramatic Arts Experience for Students ages 12-16 at the Posey School, 57 Main Street, Northport.  It will 'root' the student in basic acting techniques, theater games, improvisation, monologues and scripted scenes.
        They will try their 'wings' with creative movement, yoga stretches & breathing, and improvisational dance.  For information and registration, contact

    September 18 and 19 -Connie Cocciolone and Alice Weiser of Constant Wonder will be performing their special blend of original children's songs and interactive theater games at Long Island Children's Museum in Garden City..     Northport Performing Arts Center (NPAC) will be hosting a table in the park at the Cow Harbor Day festival.  Be sure to stop by, join our mailing list, and pick up a t-shirt or hat.  Anyone donating $100 or more before the theater opens will join the "Original Cast" and receive a limited edition "Original Cast" t-shirt.

    VISUAL ARTS

     

    Kate Kelly will be one of 4 featured visual artists in a show entitled METAMORPHOSIS, curated by William Grabowski. The exhibit will be on view at the Art-trium Gallery (a satellite gallery of the Huntington Arts Council), UNTIL November 15, 2004.     Be part of a group of like-minded people interested in experiencing three different methods in emotional education. The Spontaneous Painting Method created by Susan Bello Phd, Focusing developed by Eugene Gendlin and introducing the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) philosophy of Marshall Rosenberg.     Phyllis Hicks was pleased with her experience in August’s “Art in the Park” and is looking forward to next year’s show.

     

    George Hart our illustrious Web Master and former board member won an award from the town of Huntington to install a temporary sculpture in Billy Joel Park in Cold Spring Harbor.  A photo and directions for visiting it can be seen at http://www.georgehart.com/sculpture/compass-points-large.html

    September 8 - David T. Haussler-Sculptor (LIPSS), has been busy working on a new 9/11 Memorial Project which Channel 21 wants to air on this date.

    PHILOSOPHY

     

    The Long Island Philosophy Society will meet at New York Institute of technology, at Old Westbury, Long Island.  A NAC member, Jim Friel, who is a Philosophy Professor, is the Co-Chair of LIPS. Everyone is invited to attend for a day of "thinking out loud".  The convention starts at 9:00 A.M.  For further information, you can contact  frielkelly@optonline.net.   

     

    Membership

    Due to the many expenses incurred in presenting so many programs, we are raising our membership dues to $25.00 a year.  We hope our membership will continue to grow.  If you wish to join, please send a check to NAC, P. O. Box 508, Northport, NY 11768.

     

    Our website http://www.northportarts.org  has been updated now that George has returned from his travels.  And many of our members have taken the opportunity to link their site to ours, as well as having their news published in The Journal for the Arts and in this on-line newsletter.
