Almost six years old, we continue presenting unique events and exhibits to the community. We have grown as a network, connecting artists and the community. Flutefest , - The Northport Arts Coalition will present "Flutefiesta" on Wednesday, January 14th, 7:30 pm at the Northport Public Library. Admission is free. Six accomplished flutists will perform works from Bizet’s "Carmen," Boismortier (Baroque composer), as well as "Rhumba" by Michael Coolan, and "Night and Day" by Cole Porter. Featured flutists will be: Nancy Reycraft, Bassam Saba,Stephanie Gralow, Leslie A. Strait, Sally Shorrock, Deborah L. Sherman, along with guest artists. Do-ing Music , THE LONG AWAITED ARRIVAL OF RUSSIAN PIANIST MAXIM ANIKUSHIN IS FINALLY HERE!!! Tickets for this premier Do-Ing Music event at 8:00 p.m.on Friday January 23rd at the Northport Library have been reserved for months. They are now available at the Northport Library, free of charge, and are expected to go fast, so act quickly.(Library number is 261-6930). Despite his young age, Maxim has appeared at Carnegie and Alice Tully Halls. Check out www.northportarts.org for more information on this truly gifted musician and the ambitious program he has prepared.. The Northport Chorale will hold auditions for its exciting 2004 season on Wednesdays, January 7th and 14th at 7:00 p.m. followed by rehearsals. All voices are welcome to try out. Auditions take place in the choral room at East Northport Middle School on Fifth Avenue. The school is east of Larkfield Road just past St. Anthony’s High School. The spring concert in May will feature Vivaldi’s Gloria with orchestra and soloists Auditions for soloists will take place on January 21. For more information, please phone 754-3144 or 864-7080. Member Kate Kelly is showing some of her recent artwork in Caffe Portofino, Main Street, Northport. (Across from post office.) A new exhibit opens at the Northport Historical Museum, 115 Main Street, Northport, on January 11 and runs through March...titled: Artists & Writers of Northport. Opening reception will be on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2-4:30 pm. At 3 pm Curator George Wallace will give a talk highlighting some of the history of artists and writers who called Northport home. Should be interesting. There will be a number of special events connected with this exhibit. Look for flyers, press releases, etc. for upcoming events. Glenn Baldwin and Friends of Jazz return to Northport Library for their third concert on Friday, January 16, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets available at the Library desk. The First Brain Gym®101 Course on Long Island by Long Island's First Brain Gym® Instructor, Emily Eisen, will be given in Northport at Applied Visions on Bayview Avenue. The dates are January 17, 18 and 25 (9am-5pm each day). The Course covers all twenty six brain gym exercises, six balances and two brain repatterning programs. All tasks and skills involving brain function can be managed through these simple movements, in addition to stress reduction, enhanced creativity, focus, organization, communication (written and the spoken word), coordination, balance, confidence, thinking skills, and physical and emotional balance. Celeste Mauro's watercolor painting, "Faded Glory" has been accepted for an exhibition at the Firehouse Gallery at Nassau Community College. The Open Competition: Light Effects, will be exhibiting work 'that uses light as a process, or shows the presence and/or effects of light in the finished piece'. The exhibition will run from January 20 through February 12, 2004; the Artists' Reception will be January 31, 2004 from 3 - 5 pm. Firehouse Art Gallery @ Nassau Community College Jurors: Jeffrey Bergen and Laura Power-Swiggert Exhibition Dates: Jan 20 - Feb 12, 2004 Artists Reception: January 31, 2004 The Children’s Dance Company will perform at Posey School on Sunday, February 8, at 2 p.m. There is no admission charge, but donations will be requested. Reservations are necessary due to limited space; you may reserve your space by calling 631-757-2700 and leaving your name, phone number, and the number of people who will be attending. The Company is sponsored by Dance Education Services of Long Island and performs historical dances as well as newly choreographed dances. The performers are aged nine through thirteen.
