NAC PROGRAMS AT THE LIBRARY

Nac celebrates its Sixth Year Anniversary with Art, Music and Poetry

TUESDAY, April13th at 7:00 pm

Doris Rowe will be presenting "art-in-the-dark." She will be featuring the work of NAC members who display on the Internet. Participating are: Susan Bello, Patricia Jeanne Boes, John Ellsworth, George Hart, David Haussler, Michael KrasowitzJunelee Graham Rose, Doris Rowe, Claudia Markovich, Rosemarie Petruzzellis, Steve Valentino, and Elizabeth Yaari. Come and meet the artists and see their work. To round out the evening, several performers will share their talents with us, including sopranos Nina Baumann and Tara Kavanagh, oboist Dorian Schwartz, flutist Karin Marcello and poet Phil Sparacino. Celebrate with us!

Celebrate the transcendence of the human spirit and listen to
Oliver Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time, a moving work for piano, cello, violin, and clarinet composed while the original musicians and composer were captives in Nazi Germany. Featured on the program will be cellist Bernard Tomosaitis, pianist Sayuri Lida, clarinetist Jess Gross and violinist Maria Conti. A brief appearance by the Northport Wind Quintet will began the program. Refreshments and "meet the artists" immediately following.  Tickets for this free concert may be obtained at the Northport Library, or by e-mail (vivaldi222@aol.com)

NORTHPORT PERFORMING ARTS CENTER UPDATE:
As many of you have probably read in last week's Observer, plans look quite definite for new owner, Jerome Vivona to run the former Northport Theater.  Meetings will take place between Mr. Vivona and NAC board members this month.  For information, check: http://northportpac.org.  As the biggest arts organization in Northport, we can be instrumental in supporting this wonderful endeavor, while also ensuring a wonderful venue for our own programs.  We will keep you updated on this exciting endeavor!

Celeste Mauro 's  Watercolor painting entitled "Morning Chat" will be evaluated in the June 2004 issue of "The Artist's Magazine". The artist will be exhibiting in "Masquerade: Roles Women Play" Smithtown Township Arts Council Annual Women's History Month Exhibition through 4/17/04 at the Mills Pond House in St. James.

One of John Ellsworth's photographs, "The Janet R," won a "best of
show" award at the 15th annual juried exhibit at the River Gallery in
Galesville, Maryland. The exhibit was from Feb 28-Mar 28, 2004.

CONTEST FOR POETS: Lake Ronkonkoma Historical Society 14th Annual Poetry Contest entitled "Long Island, Its People and Places, Past, Present and Future" is open to all. "The Children's Dance Company will performdances they have choreographed themselves under the guidance of Company
Directors Elsa Posey and Denise Tellier Cook. Elyssa Vanderpool has helped the dancers explore concepts in modern dance and jazz. Exploring historical dance, the dancers will perform excerpts from "Swan Lake" under the guidance of Josette Toland and Elsa Posey. Collaborating with artists Dorit Netze and Denise Cook, the dancers have researched and created a new work involving dance, art and music. Space is limited.
