Subject: May2 NAC NEWS From: PatBond NORTHPORT ARTS COALITION NEWS - Tuesday, May 1, 2002 Our 4th anniversary meeting was a resounding success. We saw a delightful exhibition of period dancing from 1910: such dances as the turkey trot were demonstrated by Jessie Kardos, Gina Borden, Marissa Graham, and Shaylyn Forte of the Posey School of Dance. Denise Tellier Cooke explained the interesting origins of the various dances. We were not only entertained but educated as well. Heather Walsh displayed her work. Kate Kelly read poems by George Wallace. The Bare Bones Theater Company (Jeff Bennett, Director) presented short scenes from a number of stage productions. Sherri Bennett, Frank Zinghini, Chris McBride, and Nicole Napolitano Conte starred. Our meeting closed with a lively Scott Joplin rag played by Isabella Eredita Johnson. The Diabelli Variations concert at the Northport Public Library on the 19th with 34 pianists was a roaring success - a full house. This occasion was made possible in part with public funds from the N. Y. Council on the Arts, the Suffolk County Decentralization Program administered by the Huntington Arts Council, Inc. in partnership with the Suffolk Consortium of Arts Councils, and the Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs, Robert J. Gaffney, County Executive We are grateful to the Northport Library for all their help as well.
