January 2, 2002 Welcome! Northport Arts Coalition NEWS Meeting at the Northport Library on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at 7:30pm (All are invited) ABOUT FILM AND MUSIC Early in December, I saw 16 films in a little over one week. I love movies, but this marathon was my duty as a long-time member of the National Board of Review. I am required to see as many films as possible before our awards ceremony on January 7th.. (Please don't feel sorry for me.) If you look at recent movie ads, you will see mention of some of the awards the Board is giving. It's been a strange year for film; there isn't one outstanding film that's a sure winner. So our meeting will definitely result in some interesting discussion. Please bring your selection of the top three films for 2001. I know I have an edge as I've seen almost all of the contenders, and many have just appeared in the theaters. I will reveal the Board's top ten. We will also be hearing from a musicologist who will talk briefly about Debussy's music in film. And to get us in the right mood, Edith Auner, director of the Pre-College and Community Music Programs at the State University of New York at Stony Brook will be playing a short sonata Estampes, by Claude Debussy. Looking forward to seeing and hearing from you on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at 7:30pm. I love writing 2002! It seems like a miracle.
