NORTHPORT ARTS COALITION NEWS August 7, 2002 On July 14 over 70 people enjoyed the DO-ING MUSIC chamber concert held in the Northport Library Community Room and sponsored by NAC. Oboe, guitar, flute, recorder, bassoon, cello, and piano were among the wide variety of instruments played by truly talented musicians for our delight. We are looking forward to more! On Friday, October 18th, at 7:30p.m. the NAC's Do-ing Music fall chamber music event will take place in the Northport Library . There is clearly an interest in the community for this type of venue. Both audience and musicians are looking forward to this next event. There are so many great pieces to be played- the possibilities are endless. On Wednesday August 14th, we invite artists and art lovers to join us at 7:30 p.m. in the Northport Library Community Room to discover all the exciting events and happenings that are underway and to add your ideas and creativity to our growing organization. I am also sending out a call for the next Lorenzo de'Medici (patron of the arts) with an interest in developing a Northport Community Theater and/or Northport Arts Center. "A Report from our Nominating Committee" The Nominating Committee is gratified to announce that each of the officers on the current NAC Board has agreed to run for another term in the same position. The slate is: Co-Chairs: B.J.Cassidy/Isabella Johnson, Treasurer, Bruce Johnson, Secretary, Pat Bond, three Board Members: Jeff Bennett, Jennie Hair, and Charlotte Koons. On Wednesday, September, we will announce the slate and alternative slates may be presented at that time. Elections will take place October 9th. We are pleased with the enthusiastic response to our call for volunteers to serve on an Advisory Board. "Artists Celebrate Northport" - NAC members and friends are invited to attend an opening reception at the Village Courtroom on Sunday, August 11, between 6 and 8 p.m. to view this latest exhibit of community art. Come support your local artists. The exhibit will run until December 14th. "Happenings on Main Street looking for artists. The Northport Arts Coalition and The Northport Chamber of Commerce are presenting this series of events. The series started in late June and will continue until the end of August. They are held at various places in Northport Village every Friday from 6-7:30p.m. We are extending the excitement to Sunday August 18th from 1-5p.m. at the entrance to Northport Village Park with both musicians and visual artists. TUES D'ARTS @ 69 Wall (69 Wall Street, Huntington) is a new arts and entertainment series which will be held every Tuesday evening at 8PM starting August 13th. Each event will present 2 feature performances followed by an open mic.
