Perception and Metaphor
Interpreting Fine-Art Photography
John Ellsworth, an award-winning Northport photographer,
will conduct a digital-slide presentation and talk on the influences that
shape figurative interpretations of fine-art photography.
His program will include:
- A perspective of fine-art photography integrating levels of meaning and the dynamics of time and space.
- The role perception and context play in shaping interpretation.
-
An interactive session where he will share about 15 of his images for the audience to interpret.
The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer period.
About John Ellsworth . . .
Ellsworth seeks to photograph strong compositions that emphasize
light, shadow, water, and often reflection as a visual form. With the use
of unexpected point of view, he says his intent is to evoke a figurative
response in the viewer.
Ellsworth has been photographing for about 25 years, but did not start
showing his fine-art work until 1997. His photography now appears in various
Long Island fine-art shows and galleries where he has won numerous awards.
While teaching communications during the last two decades, Ellsworth
worked as a sailing instructor, published articles on sailing, published
a collection of sailing stories (Tiller and the Pen), and pursued his interests
in fine-art photography. Since 2001, Ellsworth has focused on photography
full-time while teaching part-time.
John Ellsworth holds a doctorate in communications education and is a professor emeritus at Nassau Community College.
